Swimming Pool Tiling and Renovation, San Roque Club, Cadiz

This swimming pool had been poorly maintained and far too much acid was put in the pool water, causing the tiles to start falling off, as the cement and adhesive had been eaten away.

There was no choice other than to strip the tiles from the pool, render and re-tile with high quality glass mosaic tiles.

A special adhesive is used, with high adhesion and resistance to pool chemicals. The work is then finished off using a special grout with anti algae properties (not white cement)

Swimming Pool Tiling, Mijas, Costa del Sol, Spain

This swimming pool had been abandoned for many years. The condition of the tiles was very bad with no grout, staining and many tiles falling off.

We stripped the existing tiles, treated the cement to kill the algae, applied a coat of render to smooth the surfaces, then retiled using glass mosaic tiles.

Swimming Pool tiling, Mijas, Costa del Sol

A before and after picture of a swimming pool tiling & renovation project in Mijas.

In the before picture, the pool doesn’t really look that bad, but it was a very boring colour of blue, with the stereotypical dolphin and Greek key border. There was no personal touch, that the clients could be proud of.

The pool was leaking through the pipe in the base of the pool. Excavation of the terrace to get to the pipe was impossible, as the terrace is stamped concrete and difficult to repair. However what made the work impossible (without tens of thousands of euros) is that the pool is supported by a retaining wall 5m high, on top of which is a concrete ring beam and then the terrace. Excavation in this area would have disturbed the ring beam and the retaining wall.

Instead, we re-purposed the hoover pipe to give a working drain. The pool can be hoovered using the skimmer, so not a problem. We did suggest that the most economical option would have been to simply block the drain off, but as the owner wanted to tile the pool to his liking, it made sense to make the repair.

The tiles chosen are a beautiful turquoise glass mosaic.

Swimming pool renovation in Marbella, Mijas, Estepona and Fuengirola, Malaga

Common problems with swimming pools. Swimming pools, like most things require maintenance. A tiled pool requires acid washing and grouting around every 8-10 years. The acid washing is to remove calcium and mineral deposits from the surface of the glass mosaic tiles. After this, new cement based grout is applied. If the tiles are in good condition, this leaves the pool looking much younger.

If the grout is neglected in and older pool, algae starts to take hold. This can be in the form of black algae in the grout lines, or worse, the algae can get behind the tiles and then the tiles start to come off. Once the tiles start to come off it is important to act quick to limit the damage.

Swimming pools are prone to leaks. Pool leaks can come from a number of sources. The most common is leaking plumbing lines, after this, the problems start to become structural. Structural pool leaks can be due to old concrete becoming porous, or cracks in the structure.

We have equipment for diagnosing leaks and repairing cracked or leaking pools.

Repairing and renovating a swimming pool is often part of other building works. We can reform your swimming pool by adding steps, changing the shape, or even adding a Jacuzzi area.

Building a seating area in a swimming pool is a great way of adding useful value, it gives a comfortable place to relax and enjoy a drink.

Retiling a swimming pool gives stunning impact and leaves the pool looking like new. If the surround is changed at the same time, this improves the general look of the pool area.

We can then combine this with constructing a new terrace around the pool, outdoor kitchens, barbecue areas, bar areas, pergolas, outdoor toilet to create a truly personal area that will be the envy of your friends.

Pools can also be improved by adding heating systems, cascades and slides, the only limit is your imagination.
