Custom made wooden staircase, townhouse renovation project
  • Posted By SpecialisedBuilder

Custom made wooden staircase, townhouse renovation project.

In this example of works, we are showing a custom built staircase by our carpenters. The carpentry team made the staircase from scratch to the customers design requirements.

This was part of a renovation project of a 2 storey townhouse. The staircase was moved to give more space and more light.

In this carpentry / renovation project, the clients wanted the finished building works to be a mix of modern and traditional.

This staircase once finished will be painted white. The main structure is pine. Pine is chosen as it is an economic material with good strength to weight characteristics. For the treads of the stairs, solid mahogany for it’s hard wearing nature and beautiful looks. The balustrade is pine, with the handrail in mahogany.

If you need any type of carpentry, from wooden staircases, to bars, built in cupboards, wooden work tops, outdoor bar areas, pergolas, car ports… any thing made from wood, get in touch with us today to see what our carpenters can do for you.

Campo House, Finca, Extension works

In this ongoing project, we are creating a double storey extension on the side of the original stone build ruin.

The walls are going up on a concrete foundation, with high density concrete block work.

Eventually this will be rendered, new windows installed and the roof finished.

Total Swimming Pool Renovation, Costa del Sol

This is a total renovation of an old swimming pool. The prefabricated pool surround was breaking up and was painful for people to walk on. The inside of the pool was painted. After 30 years of paint being applied, it was looking a mess and the paint was starting to come off in patches.

The first thing that we did was to demolish the existing pool surround. This waste was removed to a treatment plant.

The swimming pool was then drained and allowed to dry a little ready for the sand blasting. The sand blasting removes all the loose paint back to the original render and ensures that the new tiles will be well stuck.

The surround is made from very hard white concrete. We build shuttering and then pour in the mix. Once it starts to set, we float it to level the stones in the mix. This creates a smooth, yet non slip surface. Once the concrete is fully set we remove the shuttering, polish the edges and make expansion cuts.

The last stage was to tile and grout the pool. In this pool the choice was high quality AlttoGlass mosaic tiles from the North of Spain.

As you can see, the results of this 5 day project are stunning.

Swimming Pool Cascade added as part of complete pool and terrace renovation, Mijas

We will add more footage and pictures later, but here the whole terrace has been demolished, the pool surround demolished.

We levelled the swimming pool, made a whole new pool surround, new terrace made from reinforced concrete, new walls around the pool, with lighting.

The cascade is stunning, creating a relaxing focal point at the head of the pool.

Add a cascade to your pool for that ultimate finishing touch.

Interior plastering and plasterboard, Coin, nr Marbella.

This beautiful country house is in the hills above Marbella on the way to Coin. In this post, you can see the progress that our building team has made on the interior of the property. The house was very old and had constantly had new parts added and so none of the rooms had straight walls or ceilings of the same height.

In this part, which will be the lounge, we have removed columns, chimneys, false ceilings and stone cladding. We have then installed the plasterboard on all walls and ceiling. This will mean that where there were 2 rooms with several different finishes and different ceiling heights, there is now one type of wall and one level of ceiling.

There is a cavity between the plasterboard and the original walls, so this will give added insulation.

All the floors will have the same slate grey tiles throughout.

In the adjoining room, we have started to strip out the ceiling and this will get the same treatment.

Swimming pool renovation in Marbella, Mijas, Estepona and Fuengirola, Malaga

Common problems with swimming pools. Swimming pools, like most things require maintenance. A tiled pool requires acid washing and grouting around every 8-10 years. The acid washing is to remove calcium and mineral deposits from the surface of the glass mosaic tiles. After this, new cement based grout is applied. If the tiles are in good condition, this leaves the pool looking much younger.

If the grout is neglected in and older pool, algae starts to take hold. This can be in the form of black algae in the grout lines, or worse, the algae can get behind the tiles and then the tiles start to come off. Once the tiles start to come off it is important to act quick to limit the damage.

Swimming pools are prone to leaks. Pool leaks can come from a number of sources. The most common is leaking plumbing lines, after this, the problems start to become structural. Structural pool leaks can be due to old concrete becoming porous, or cracks in the structure.

We have equipment for diagnosing leaks and repairing cracked or leaking pools.

Repairing and renovating a swimming pool is often part of other building works. We can reform your swimming pool by adding steps, changing the shape, or even adding a Jacuzzi area.

Building a seating area in a swimming pool is a great way of adding useful value, it gives a comfortable place to relax and enjoy a drink.

Retiling a swimming pool gives stunning impact and leaves the pool looking like new. If the surround is changed at the same time, this improves the general look of the pool area.

We can then combine this with constructing a new terrace around the pool, outdoor kitchens, barbecue areas, bar areas, pergolas, outdoor toilet to create a truly personal area that will be the envy of your friends.

Pools can also be improved by adding heating systems, cascades and slides, the only limit is your imagination.

Collapsing garden wall retaining wall and terrace re built

Collapsing garden wall retaining wall and terrace re built, Estepona, Malaga, Spain

Due to poor quality of building this garden wall became dangerous, showing huge cracks. It was about to collapse into the street. Once we started to demolish the wall, we found that there was nothing supporting the terrace and the wall had no reinforcing. Inside the terrace the wall is around 1.60m high, but out in the road it is just under 2.5m high, so if it was to collapse it could do significant damage, injure someone, or block the road.

The wall had cracks and would have eventually failed but the damage was aggravated by heavy rain at the end of 2016. The torrential rain flooded the terrace, then washed out the earth from underneath. If the wall had been built properly in the first place, this would not have been a problem.

We will completely demolish the wall, pour new reinforced concrete foundations and then rebuild the wall. The terrace will have a new concrete slab poured with the correct steel reinforcing and drainage points put in.

We will then tile the terrace in non slip tiles (essential in a swimming pool area), leaving it looking like new.

If you have walls with cracks, it is best to have them looked at by a professional builder before they become dangerous. It is possible that the damage can be halted, or underpinned, saving money.
